Yes! You can e-file your State tax return after your Federal return is complete. (At this time, state-only electronic filing isn't available unless you've filed a current-year accepted Federal return with SmartTax.)
You can also use your SmartTax account to file State returns for multiple states. However, you may only file one return per state.
If you need to verify that your State return has been submitted, sign in to SmartTax, and on the home page, you will see a list of your Federal and State returns at the bottom by tax filing year.
Beside your State return listing(s), you will see three statuses:
- Created
- E-filed/Sent
- Status is either Rejected or Accepted
If your State is showing as e-filed, it was submitted, and SmartTax is awaiting notification of acceptance or rejection from the State Agency.
Once your Federal return has been accepted by the IRS, the IRS will transmit your State return to the state for processing. Your State status will be displayed once SmartTax receives acknowledgement(s) from the state(s), generally within 5 days from the time the Federal return has been accepted.
